2000 L’Ogre et le Connaisseur (The Ogre and the Connoisseur)
Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Montreal (Qc)
Taste: the second in a series on the five senses
There is a continuous light projection of 600 chairs horizontally stacked around the specially shaped oval exhibition gallery. At the outset, the model for the stacking and then the 3D computer drawing become a negative for the memory of this model and drawing. Viewers find themselves in the middle of a sculpture, an arena, a nest or even a large open mouth. They are on same level as a huge tongue, resembling an enormous barley sugar that one can lick or on which one may break one’s teeth.
At the entrance, a white chocolate angel as the host.
Light projection, 8 slide projectors: 1,380 x 1,086 cm (floor surface)
Tongue: red polyester resin: 186 x 106 x 45 cm
Angel: white chocolate, tragacanth: 40 x 35 x 13 cm.
